Adventure Stop #4
Flexibility-Stretching
Flexibility is the ability of the body to move the joints (and the muscles that are attached to the joints) freely through a full range of motion.
People who are flexible
can bend, stretch,
and twist so that they can do their
daily activities such as dressing, eating, reaching, running, playing and
doing chores. Flexibility keeps us
limber
so that we don’t hurt ourselves by stretching too far.
How Our Joints Work to make Us Flexible
Your joints are where your bones meet each other.

There are many kinds of joints.
Some move a lot, and some don’t move at all.
Muscles are attached to Bones to make us Flexible

Bones help you to live and grow. When your bones grow longer, you grow taller. To keep your bones strong you need plenty of calcium (milk products).
Sizes and Shapes of Bones
There are 206 bones inside your body. They are many shapes and sizes. Some are long, like in your arms and legs and some are short, like in your hands and feet. Some are round, like your ribs and some have odd shapes, like your backbone.
Bones Protect
Bones that are called ribs protect soft organs like your lungs, heart, and stomach.
Your Skeleton

All your bones together form your skeleton. Your skeleton is the framework of your body. It holds the body up. Your body grows up with you.
Bones, muscles, and joints all work together
They work together to let you twist and turn and jump. It would be hard to jump without bending your knee or throw a ball without bending your elbow. It would be hard to brush your teeth without bending your elbow. It would be hard to get dressed or tie your shoes without bending at the hips.
